Scott Christensen has coached cross country and track at Stillwater High school (Stillwater, MN) since 1979. In that time, his teams and athletes have won 13 team state championships, had 25 different individual state champions, and produced 229 “Minnesota All-State” athletes. His team won the 1997 USA National Cross Country Championship, had a top 10 finish at the 2011 Nike Cross Nationals, and he was named the 2023 National Boys Track & Field Coach of the Year. He has published 3 books related to coaching along with numerous technical articles, publications, lectures, and online curriculums. He has served in a variety of leadership and instructor roles with USA Track & Field, the US Track & Cross Country Coaches Assoc, and World Athletics (formerly the IAAF). He coached Team USA at the 2003 Junior World XC Championships (Switzerland) and 2008 Senior World XC Championships (Scotland).
Jeff Arbogast retired from coaching in 2015 after more than 35 years to focus on educating coaches, but remains a classroom teacher at Bingham HS (Jordan, UT). In his time as cross country and track coach at Bingham, his teams won 11 state championships, the 1995 XC National Championship (boys), and the 1999 XC National Championship (girls) while finishing in the national Top10 eleven times, putting their coach in both the Utah and National Athletic Coaches Hall of Fames. Coach Arb was a competitive shooter in his younger years, competing for the Air Force Academy in college, and at two Olympic Trials. His training included running to lower his heart rate for shooting, which eventually led to a career as a high school running coach. As a former shooter, he knew he had much to learn, and put all his energy into coaching education courses, interview opportunities, and clinic attendance to become the best coach he could be. This ended with his certification as one of four national USATF Level III coaches, with an emphasis on pediatrics, hematology, and altitude training. . . all while completing 22 marathons and 3 ultras himself!
